Early Mecklenburg Marriage Records

A 1779 Mecklenburg Co Virginia militia roster, land, and tax records place my 4th great grandfather Charles O'Kelley living in Mecklenburg Co Virginia and it is in those Mecklenburg Records where a mysterious record appears showing the marriage of John Kelley to a Francis Crowder and she was the youngest sister of Mary Crowder who was the wife of Charles O'Kelley and Charles appears as the second on this 1804 record.  John Kelley is not of my line, he does not appear in any of the known records for my family but Giles Kelly had descendants living in next door Brunswick Co and some were named John so I think it is likely that the Brunswick Kelleys are cousins to 4th great grandfather Charles O'Kelley and they all were descendants of Giles Kelly who came from Waterford Ireland and landed in Maryland in 1677.

Delilah Crowder is also a sister of Mary Crowder and Frances Crowder.  Delilah Crowder married Francis O'Kelley the younger brother to Charles O'Kelley.  George Crowder who appears on the marriage record of Francis Kelley and Delilah Crowder was the father of Mary, Delilah, and Francis Crowder and his birth appears in the Bristol Parish Vestry Records in Prince George Co Virginia dated Oct 3 1727.  His son-in-laws were Charles Kelley, Francis Kelley, and John Kelley.

Also appearing in the Mecklenburg Co VA records is the 1793 marriage of Henry Kelley of Brunswick Co VA to a William Nanney.  It is likely that the Abner Kelley who married Polley Lanier was also a descendant of Giles Kelley as the name Abner H Kelley appears in a later generation of this Giles Kelly's descendants.
